Celebrate Oktoberfest Stamford

Oktoberfest first began on October 12th in 1810 with the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese con Sachsen-Hildhurghausen-celebrated in Bavaria. Five Days after the marriage, a large festival was hosted in front of one of the gates leading to Munich, Germany. This festival included horse races and a large feast, along with lots of beer.

Today, Oktober is internationally famous for serving craft beer in tents with other attractions such as dancing, music and a carnival-like touch. It is not only a Munich event, but is celebrated to greet the fall in numerous parts of the world, especially in New England.

Why is it sometimes hosted in September if it’s called “October” fest?

Often times people place October and Oktoberfest in the same time span, but in fact the festival is hosted or starts up in the month of September.

Historically, the first Oktoberfest ran from October 12th, 1810 to October 17th. During the following years the timeline for this celebration was repeated. Later on in years, the festival was moved to September to take advantage of the better weather conditions. In September the evenings are warmer, which allowed guests to enjoy the outdoor gardens and tents without suffering through the chill during the October month. From then on, Oktoberfest has been taking place in the month of September.

Host Your Private Party

Summer is beginning to wind down and since kids will be headed back to school in New Canaan, perhaps you think it may be time to take a little break. For some parents that’s not always possible. Back to school means birthday parties are going to need planning this fall. September birthdays can be tough because the weather can make or break your celebration. It may be too cold for swimming or too hot to be outside. Indoor birthday parties are a classic event, here are a couple tips we have for you as you plan your child’s birthday party!

Pick a fun theme:

With so many new movies coming out at the end of the summer, (like Pete’s Dragon) why not have a themed party? Head over to the nearest party store or research decoration ideas on Pinterest to find the perfect theme for your child’s special day! Even adopting a simple color theme is a great way to set up a fun birthday party that everyone will enjoy. A themed party for a child’s birthday makes decorating easy and keeps kids interested.

Check for food allergies:

Depending on the age of your child, you may be inviting a majority of their classmates. As you plan for this number of guests, be sure to ask the parents if their child has any food allergies or diet preferences. You may need to have a gluten-free or dairy-free options available to the children who can’t eat certain types of food.

Get the whole family involved:

Party planning for any event can easily become an activity that the whole family can enjoy. Get everyone involved during the process. Making homemade invitations with your child’s touch is a great way to personalize the invite as well as giving them something fun to do after school and when homework is completed for the night.

If you’ve chosen as your party theme a movie or specific character, why not have a family moving night to get excited for the theme of the party? Baking things together is also a great way to get the whole family together for this party planning event!
